“It is my duty to continue Seigun Law and my birthright to face the Tatsu Lords for defying it.”
-Shioh Angylyn
Biography
Lady Angylyn is an heiress to the family line of the Shioh clan, one of the many titles belonging to the legendary clan of the Seigun Samurai. Raised in a wealthy estate among other ruling samurai clans, Angylyn was taught the strict rules of Seigun Law, an expectation not fit for someone like Angylyn, yet she yearned for it despite her imperfections. For it is better to nurture your last branch than to leave it be, even if it is crooked.
When the Seigun Shogunate came to an end in 3112 RH, she and her father, Suda Shioh were forced to leave their wealthy estate and relocate among the common folk, for their position as a samurai clan was no more. Absent of his title, Suda was groveled in misery and the shame of failing to continue the clan's legacy. Meanwhile, Angylyn learned to connect with those considered below the samurai. She attended public school, learned the ins and outs of the city of Tatsu, and eventually studied law. At age twenty, she managed to fulfill an advisor position for a very important daimyo for a clan branched from the Tatsu Shogunate. With the help of her samurai lineage, Angylyn was able to reinstate clan Shioh as a lesser samurai clan under the Tatsu Shogunate in 3122 RH. She was even able to reclaim the old Shioh manor back for her father.
With the Shioh name now saved from its lingering demise, Angylyn wished to see her father recover from his spiraling depression and maybe the minimum courtesy of acknowledging her daughter's efforts to revive the clan. Yet, Suda's sorrow and disapproval remained. It was then that Angylyn comprehended the weight of her life's ambition of pleasing her father and found it beyond her reach. She left her father to wallow away in his empty manor, letting him know she would continue the Shioh legacy with or without him.
Angylyn's services continued for a few more years and even had a planned marriage with Iwata Kisho, a fellow Tatsu Samurai and childhood friend who was also the heir of a former Seigun Samurai, seeking to continue Tekkan’s legacy rather than his father’s. As things seemed graceful for the Shioh name, Angylyn soon came upon a crossroads when the Tatsu Shogun ordered a full-scale invasion of the mainland, an act considered treason of the Seigun Law. However, their efforts were thwarted when the remaining 500 ronin of the former Seigun Shogunate ambushed them at their docks in Azuhanto. They wore their old armor and carried their swords without their sheaths, knowing they would never live to encase them themselves. Outnumbered 20 men to 1 the seigun fought their hearts out and nearly convinced the Tatsu legion would be defeated. However, their means weren't enough to withstand their numbers, nor were they meant to. The last of the Seigun standing was none other than Suda no Shioh, Angylyn's father, who brought a yari in place of his sword, which he chose to leave behind at the manor.
After Suda was finally brought down by General Bakuma Murosawa, the rageful shogun sent samurai to the estates of the fallen seigun and torched all of their histories to cinders. Before they came for the Shioh manor, Angylyn returned to find her father's sword resting upon his armor display, seemingly left behind on purpose for someone else to take the mantle, causing Angylyn's lifelong hunger for her father's pride to reawaken once more. She went with the sword, along with other family heirlooms and her pet bird; Ogawa, before the estate fell to the flame. Clipping all strings to the Tatsu shogunate and leaving all of it behind. Fleeing on horse to slowly forge her strengths to overthrow the Tatsu Shogunate and properly continue her family's legacy.
Not knowing where to go, Angylyn found herself in a rice village in the mountains of Otsuhama. Which was being ransacked and exploited by the Murosawa stag riders. Seeing this as an opportunity to satiate her father's wishes and possible end, she attempted to fend them off by herself, but her fear and inexperience held her back. She promised the village folk that she would recruit samurai to defend their village. Therefore she ventured into Tatsu where she met numerous wandering warriors the Seigun Law would consider perfidy to associate with. Among them was Ryusuke, a ronin and former Seigun who was discharged for his selfish and dishonorable acts. Yet was considered by Angylyn to be the most qualified to mentor her on her journey, and therefore adopted his techniques both approved and disapproved of the Seigun Law. Evolving her weaponry past the traditional sword, and that of the Tanegashima firearms. Struggling to learn the difference between honor and right.
