Lao Shen is the current empress of the Shilon kingdoms, as well as the Ox reincarnation of the twelve zodiac deities. She is the triplet sister of former Dragon Emperor Ren and Snake Admiral Fu Bai, who were known as the Three Great Heroes of Shilon before the events of Yamamura. Worshiped for her strength, leadership, and perseverance, She is often depicted on the battlefield wearing thick leather and gold armor, wielding her eight-ton shield, her signature zodiac relic, and a blunt secondary weapon forged by herself. However, since her position as Empress after Yamamura, she hardly sees the face of battle as formidable as she was.

Since birth, her clear love of Shilon has always been clear, with shield steady and hammer firm, what more could she give to the kingdoms? As an admiral, she denied the titles of godhood and often referred to herself as a protector of humanity. She even rejected the dreams of ranking higher than her brother Ren, who had achieved monarchy as emperor. While Fu Bai found himself coiled in the labyrinth of selfish desire and envy, Lao found solitude in her destined purpose to serve the kingdoms. For a bull's horn must be rock solid, but should their stubbornness?

After Yamamura, the faith in Emperor Ren had grown unsubstantial and weary. For the likeness of her kingdom, she pursued to overthrow her brother shortly after he invited her to scale the pillar with him; an act treasonous unfit for a king. By the time Lao had seized Ren's palace at the base of the Divine Pillar and extinguished the White Horns; Ren's personal militia, he had already risen the mountain. After a tremendous storm, the Dragon Emperor fell from the clouds and onto earth. Enraged and poisoned-minded by his disgrace, he blamed Lao for refusing to stand by his side and began to beat her relentlessly. Despite being his equal, it seemed that Lao had no chance of besting her brother's divine rage. But like an ox's horn, Lao's perseverance was stubborn and mighty. And eventually outlasted her brother's rage, causing him to retreat. Beaten but not broken the Ox Admiral laid in her pool of blood and mud. Until she was eventually rescued by a young wolf pup that turned out to be the Zodiac Deity of the Dog.

With the Dragon chased away the Ox claimed her rightful title as Empress. But despite staunching both the trials of Yamamura and the Dragon's tantrum, it appeared a part of her was unable to regain the strength, for as vigorous as she was. The admiral Ox, revered for her compassion and determined tenderness for the people only meagerly translated in the Ox Empress. Her strength tested, her optimism beaten, this old calf grows tired, yet she marches forward still.
